What do I need to get connected?

See if your technology meets the minimum requirements.

Students need reliable internet access and a computer that meets the requirements below.

Internet connection

A reliable high-speed internet connection is required. Cable, fiber, DSL, fixed wireless, cellular, and satellite services—including low-Earth-orbit services such as Starlink—may be used if they provide stable performance.

Connection quality may vary based on speed, latency, signal strength, data limits, network congestion, and the number of people using the connection. CVA cannot guarantee the performance of a family’s internet service or troubleshoot equipment supplied by an internet provider.

Computer requirements

Students should have access to a Windows, Mac, or Chromebook computer with:

  • A current, vendor-supported operating system
  • An up-to-date web browser
  • A screen resolution of at least 1024 × 768
  • Speakers or headphones
  • A microphone and camera when required by a course
  • The ability to save and upload files

Supported browsers

Keep one of the following browsers updated:

  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Apple Safari

Individual applications may have additional browser-version requirements.

Chromebooks

A Chromebook that is still receiving ChromeOS updates may be used for most CVA coursework.

Students use the web versions of Microsoft 365 applications on a Chromebook. Windows and Mac desktop versions of Microsoft Office cannot be installed on ChromeOS.

Some FlexPoint courses may contain activities with additional technology requirements. Families should review the course Material List and contact CVA when a specific course activity does not work.

Phones and tablets

Phones are not recommended as a student’s primary device. Tablets may work for some activities, but they may not support every assignment, assessment, file upload, or course feature.

Technical support

CVA supports student accounts and access to CVA-provided systems. For personally owned devices, families are responsible for the hardware, operating system, browser settings and extensions, parental controls, printers, and home internet connection.
