Description
Photography courses provide students with an understanding of photographic media, techniques, and processes. These courses focus on development of photographic compositions through manipulation of the elements of art and principles of design. Photography courses may also include the history of photography, historic movements, image manipulation, critical analysis, and some creative special effects.
Learning Goals
Students see photographs every day on television, on the Internet, and in magazines and newspapers. What makes a great photograph? How did the artist capture a story? What makes a great picture? What are careers in photography? In this course, students learn and apply fundamental skills to use a camera and take photographs of animals, people, and landscapes. Students gain an understanding of how photography can be a means of documentation or high art. Students examine photographic careers and explore self-reflection to progress their creative growth as they develop a photographic portfolio. This course helps students select subjects, take a photograph, and print and display memories!
Unit 1 Introduction to Photography
Students will gain an understanding of the early history of photography, how cameras work, basic equipment needed for photography and how to transfer digital images from a camera to computer.
Unit 2 Meeting your Camera
Students will learn the common features if point and shoot cameras along with caring for cameras.
Unit 3 Choosing a Subject
Students will learn how photographers choose subjects, elements of good subjects and rules for design.
Unit 4 Elements of Composition
Students will learn about composing photographs, techniques of composing photographs and the rule of thirds and framing.
Unit 5 Background and Foreground
Students will learn how to create photographs, adding depth, along with the three parts and areas of an image.
Unit 6 Managing and Editing Photos
Students will learn about managing and editing photos once transferred to a computer along with managing digital files.
Unit 7 Vacation Photos
Students will learn more about improving vacation photographs capturing the unique aspects and characteristics of the places we travel.
Unit 8 The Wild Side
Students will learn tips of photographing animals and some of the common problems to avoid.
Unit 9 Photographing People
Students will learn about photographing people and how to create self-portraits.
Unit 10 Photographer Etiquette and Display
Students will learn about the rules and laws that photographers should follow.
