Description
Students create and perform music, listen and respond to musical compositions, and incorporate their musical experiences with other activities and subjects. Course content usually involves understanding music as creative expression and communication, developing skill with the voice and/or musical instruments, and refining the ability to discern and critique.
Learning Goals
Students will:
- identify the three basic types of guitars and their parts;
- learn proper guitar care;
- learn the three basic positions of holding the guitar;
- identify strings by number and letter name;
- gain the skills required to tune a guitar;
- learn and apply basic strumming and plucking skills;
- read and interpret guitar tablature and fretboard diagrams;
- apply basic guitar playing skills to improvisation;
- understand music copyright laws;
- learn and apply chord progressions;
- learn the symbols within music notation;
- develop the listening skills to recognize rhythm values;
- gain the skills to transfer a melody from standard music notation to tablature;
