In this course, you’ll learn the leadership skills needed to be successful in all areas of your personal, academic, and professional life. You’ll learn the skills to approach problem-solving, decision-making, time management, and goal setting to manage more effectively the challenges of day-to-day life, challenging courses, and responsibilities at work. You’ll also explore the skills to approach public speaking, relationships, organizational management, and team building to better prepare you for whatever professional role you choose in the future. This course prepares students to be leaders in whatever future path they choose.
Learning Goals
Students will:
- Analyze leadership concepts and civic processes, including leadership styles, motivation, elections, and persuasive communication strategies.
- Evaluate media and messaging by identifying bias, propaganda, and effective use of slogans and speech techniques
- Demonstrate effective teamwork skills by understanding roles, building trust, communicating clearly, and collaborating productively.
- Apply ethical leadership practices by distinguishing ethical and unethical behavior and fostering respectful, responsible decision-making.
- Plan and implement goals using SMART goal-setting, metrics, and continuous evaluation to improve outcomes.
- Manage change and resolve conflict through effective communication, active listening, and strategies that promote cooperation and consensus.
- Apply leadership and self-management strategies, including empathy, servant leadership, self-care, and responsible decision-making.
- Use analytical thinking tools such as SWOT analysis, inference skills, and idea development to support leadership decisions.
