Fine and Performing Art—Independent Study courses, often conducted with instructors or professional artists as mentors, enable students to explore a particular art form. Independent Study courses may serve as an opportunity for students to expand their expertise in a particular form or style, to explore a topic of in greater detail, or to develop more advanced skill.
Learning Goals
Art:
- Understand and apply art concepts and vocabulary (i.e. line, shape, texture, color, space, balance, proportion, pattern and harmony)
- Develop art skills and techniques
- Understand that art reflects culture and history
- Present his or her artwork
- Use visual art to express and present ideas and feelings
- Understand that visual art shapes and reflects culture and history
- The student will create, compose, apply, express and demonstrate an understanding of principles of the arts through one or a combination of voice, instruments, dance, movement and elements of visual art.
Music:

- Understand and apply music styles from various artists, cultures and times

Drama:
- Understand and apply drama concepts and vocabulary (i.e. character, setting, dialogue, conflict, plot and theme)
- Develop drama skills and techniques
- Understand and apply drama styles for various artists, cultures and times
- Perform before an audience
- Use drama to express and present ideas and feelings
- Understand that drama can shape and reflect cultures and history
- The student will create, compose, apply, express and demonstrate understanding of principles of the arts through one or a combination of voice, instruments, dance, movement and elements of visual art.
Dance:
- Understand and apply dance concepts and vocabulary (i.e. space, time, energy, repetition, form and theme)
- Develop dance skills and techniques

Choose Curriculum
Fine and Performing Art
This course is an independent study for students who are involved in a Fine or Performing Art. Working with their CVA teacher, students will set goals and develop a portfolio of related work for grading and credit using the CVA Portfolio Evidence of Completion. The Portfolio Evidence of Completion Form can be found on the CVA Help Center and in the resources folder in the virtual classroom
