Multilingual English courses are designed for the acquisition and rapid mastery of the English language, focusing on reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Instruction includes listening and speaking practice, building on auditory and oral skills, and then moving on to reading and writing. This course provides an explanation of basic structures of the English language, enabling students to progress from an elementary understanding of English words and verb tenses to a more comprehensive grasp of various formal and informal styles. This course is designed to complement and support but does not replace regular English language arts courses.
Learning Goals
- Students will convey real or imaginary experiences through stories and histories to instruct, entertain, teach, or support argumentation.
- Students will use informative language to define, describe, compare, contrast, organize, categorize, or classify factual concepts and ideas.
- Students will explain how things work or why things happen. As students explain, they substantiate the inner workings of natural, man-made, and social phenomena.
- Students will argue to justify claims using evidence and reasoning. Arguments can advance or defend an idea or solution, change the audience's point of view, bring about action, or accept a position or evaluation of an issue.
