Families Flock to CVA Roadshow

June 28,2012

Families turned out in force at Columbia Virtual Academy (CVA) Roadshow events across the state over the last month where they met face-to-face with teachers, looked over instructional resources, tried out online classes, perused the new course catalog, and got answers to their questions. “I had a number of families talk about how very, very happy they are with their teachers from last year,” said CVA District Teacher Trainer, Loren Finley. “There were also a lot of families who were really impressed with the new course catalog and curriculum options, and many of them appreciated that we’re doing the work of putting the packages together, and helping families make the most informed decision.”

“We’re hoping to make this an annual event,” said CVA Principal, Dave Vail. “I’ve spoken to so many folks—returning, new, and potential families—who are getting a good feel for what CVA has to offer them.”

CVA Enrollment Advisor, Melanie Bailey was overwhelmed by the positive feedback. “So many people said, ‘It’s so great to meet you face-to-face,’” she said enthusiastically. “They were glad to get an opportunity to look through the curriculum and decide what to use in the 2012-13 school year.” One family had used a particular curriculum for years, but after looking over the variety of instructional resources, they decided to use a different one that they felt would be more appropriate for their student in the coming year. “This event gives families the opportunity to have hands-on experience with instructional materials,” Vail said.

A CVA parent posted on Facebook, “A huge thank you for all of your help today at the Everett show! Loved seeing all the curriculum options in-person and meeting some of the faces behind our wonderful school!”
